When do you start decorating for Christmas?

A couple of days ago, I asked my pals on Facebook what date did they start decorating for Christmas. I only asked because ~~if everyone was putting them earlier than we usually do, I was going to use that as my excuse to start!~~ I was truly curious.

But it seems that December 1 is the most popular time to start or, because it falls on a weekday this year, the weekend closest to Dec 1. And that’s when we usually start decorating as well, unless of course I can convince Bill to start earlier!

The outside Christmas lights, though, will be going up in the next week or so. I need to buy new gutter hooks for them because the ones we had seem to have gone missing in the move. Of course, the lights won’t be turned on until December 1.

The neighbours think we’re weird already for celebrating Halloween so I don’t want to freak them out anymore by turning Christmas lights on in November!

I usually start putting light decors by fall of november, sometimes even earlier. I want to celebrate the yuletide season longer than usual. I think it's the "happiest" holiday of the year...

Decorations start going up right after Thanksgiving, but we'll see this year.

We always do it on the 1st December, as thats the countdown to Christmas, but ds birthday is on the 4th, so even though we put decos up first we dont make a huge deal of it till the 5th !

Hi Tina,

The last few years I've gotten earlier and earlier with the decorating. Last year we did around the 20th Nov, but that's when we head off on our cruise so this year they'll be going up a week earlier - so in just 3 weeks. I started getting earlier because once Christmas is over I tend to want the decoartions gone :-)
