Keeping the internet safe
We all know that the internet exposes people to all sorts of inappropriate content. As a parent, I want to be able to ensure that my kids have a safe internet experience.
Live Parental Controls keeps your internet experience safe by blocking inappropriate Internet content. Have a look at this video to find out what Live Parental Controls is all about.
NETGEAR Live Parental Controls is now available on the new Wireless-N 300 Router (WNR2000).
I recently received one to try out. What interested me the most was being able to block unsafe internet sites and applications on all of the PCs and laptops in the house from my laptop. If the kids were meant to be doing research online for their homework, I’m able to block MSN, myspace, facebook and any other sites that may distract them until they are finished.
It contains a comprehensive set of features not available in other parental control solutions, including:
- remote management of the system from mobile smartphone devices;
- highly flexible settings, including the ability to time the device so that selected sites (such as Facebook) are blocked for chosen people at certain times of the day (ensuring homework is done instead); and
- unlike competing solutions, it is free with the WNR2000, with no additional fees or subscriptions required.
- Customize settings through Web browser, accessible remotely
- Protects connected devices through the router such as PCs, gaming consoles, and iPod touch®
Installing the new router looked easy enough. The disc that comes with it shows you step by step how to connect it all up.
At first it was obvious that something had gone wrong and I was sure that it was something I had done because I wasn’t able to connect to the internet after plugging in the router but after having a friend look at it (and realising that the error was on my part) we had the net up and running and the Live Parental Controls in place.
I didn’t realise that our internet connection wasn’t secure so the software also walked me through passwording our connection so no-one could “borrow” our internet. Wonder if that’s why our download was being used up so quickly each month?!
I thought it was great that I could also use the live parental controls on other gadgets that connect wirelessly, with just the touch of a button, to the router. Changing the security levels can be done remotely too by just logging into the website.
People I’ve spoken to believe that live parental controls is too expensive and many don’t use it but the good thing about the Netgear router is that you can install it and use it for free!Live Parental Controls are immediately available on new NETGEAR Wireless-N 300 Routers (WNR2000).
Overall verdict: I think the biggest selling point for me is that it’s worth having something like this to ensure that your kids are actually doing their homework when they say they are.
