Our excursion today – visit to the Air Museum at the Illawarra Regional Airport in Albion Park which is run by the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society…
Our tour guide was Russell Field, one of the many volunteers of HARS. Russell gave us a very informative tour around the museum. He kept Bill intrigued with the history of the planes – where they came from, how HARS acquired them and what they planned to do with them.
Bill’s passion is in all things military so he was in his element here. While I found all the information interesting, I was more interested in taking photos of these awesome machines…

I noticed that we were starting to lose the attention of the kids but as soon as Russell mentioned that we were going to go into “Connie”, that caught their attention again!
One interesting piece of trivia that caught my attention was that there were only three of these planes operating in the Vietnam War so there was a 1 in 3 chance that the plane we were in could have been the same one that Elvis Presley could have been in when he was transported to the war.
If you’re visiting the Illawarra, take a visit to the Air Museum.
