In the Mummified household, Santa does leave gifts. But he only leaves one gift for each child because I do want the kids to know that we buy most of their gifts for them.
When I don’t have any littlies that want to tear open the gifts before Christmas, I usually put all the gifts from us under the tree as I wrap them. Sometimes, if the kids are being nosy, I don’t put tags on the gifts. Instead I put a coloured sticker dot (one colour for each child) on the gifts and they don’t know what their colour is until Christmas morning.
Santa delivers his gifts on Christmas Eve, wrapped in a different coloured wrapping paper to the one that I use for the rest of the gifts so the younger kids can easily see which ones Santa had left.
