Careful what you crap on about

People think that they can say anything on the internet while hiding behind their keyboard.

I’m sure you’ve heard this said before, many times. But it usually refers to people being abusive and flaming and the sort.

What irks me are the people who make themselves bigger and better than they are in real life. They make their lives sound perfect, their house 3 times bigger than what it is, their income triple or quadruple than what it is, etc etc etc.

They are only lying to themselves. People don’t care if you are renting your home, why pretend that you own it? People don’t care how much money you make….unless of course, you’re in the business of showing them how to make that sort of income.

I am who I am. We rent our home. It is a small home. I am a stay at home mum. My husband works part time due to a back injury he had a few years ago. We’re not rich but we are comfortable. I don’t feel the need to make you all think that each of my children have their own bedroom in our 8 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3 storey home in the country *drools* I don’t feel the need to make you all think that my kids are perfect and the best-mannered children. I don’t feel the need to make you all think that my marriage to DH is always hunky-dory (hehe, always wanted to use that word in a post!)

I don’t use a “skinny photo” as my current avatar. I don’t pretend my face has no wrinkles or acne.

Stop the bullshit, people! I don’t care what you look like, how much money you have or how much you paid for your sofa.

And if you do still find that you need to create this fairytale life online, then you shouldn’t be surprised when people DON’T CARE in real life.

  • Woo Hoo! You go girl! I TOTALLY agree 250%. I'm so real on my blog that I've had people actually tell me I'm too real. Like you said why fake it? I'm who I am and that's that. Take it or leave it.
  • Thanks, Tishia Lee :)
  • OMG.. it's funny you say the skinny photo comment. The same people I mentioned to you on Twitter ONLY use their skinny photos. WTF?! And if you put a photo up that doesn't show them as picture perfect, they whinge until you take it down. So kinda happy they're not in my inner circle of friends anymore.

    I yam who I yam :)
  • I am so over these types of people! I can understand why you're kinda happy about not having them in your inner circle.
  • I couldn't have said it better myself!!! That is something that really irks me!!!
  • Thanks Tracey :)

Ha! Here's the comment box! :D
Preach it sistah! I whole heartedly agree with you.
Why be fake on your blog? It's YOUR blog....LOL
I am so real on mine it' kind of sickening actually.
I think the entire world knows every little bit of my business for the last 10 years that I've been blogging.
  • Glad you found my comment box, Kat...lol I prefer reading the blogs that are down to earth and real. For the time that I've been reading your blogs, I've learnt lots about you...lol
  • This is the best post ever written! I agree that people should just be who they are, the best thing about the internet is that people can get to know and like you. Not some fabricated mess.
  • Thanks, Holly :) It's hard to know if people are telling the truth or not but when I learn that they are lying, I lose respect for them.
  • Well said.

I don't see the point of the deception really. What purpose does it serve for people you don't know personally to think you're a rich, hot, mom with perfect children and a perfect marriage? Those people don't exist. And if they did, nobody would want to read about them.

I have holes in my socks, my baby occasionally smears poop on my bed, and my teenager is surly. I have too much clutter and my husband hasn't painted the house since we moved in five years ago. Ha. And I don't care who knows it. Wait, was that too much information...
  • Thanks for sharing, mrsbear...lol That's as real as it can get! ;P
  • the nanny
I agree totally. I know someone exactly like that. I happen to be related to this person so I cant get away from it. I dont get the need for constant lying and trying to be better than the person your talking to. If your life is that bad/boring that you feel you have to lie about it then DO SOMETHING ABOOUT YOUR LIFE. You only make yourself look bad when you get caught out in your lies.( I have caught this person many times, but they still do it). WOW time to get off my soapbox I think.
  • I can't understand why someone would continue to do it after getting caught out...unless of course, they are a pathological liar.
  • :applause applause:
I HATE this with a passion. There are actually a couple blogs that I will not visit anymore because I ended up just wanting to push the authors down a flight of stairs. Everything is shiny & perfect & covered in rainbows & unicorns & glitter. They can buy whatever they want and they love doing crafts with their beautiful, perfect children and I found myself just swearing at the blog.
Nobody's life is that perfect and putting yourself out there like that just pisses people off.
  • Fully understand getting pissed off with the sugar-coated blogs. I want to read about how your kids are pissing you off so I can, just for a minute, know that it's not just my feral kids...lol
  • Exactly!
  • :D Well said. Sometimes I read people's blogs and I think, "Are they for real?"
  • Dee
Good point. I am what I am, boring at times, but I blog for fun. Pretending always comes back to bite you on the A somehow.
  • Hey Tina, it's hard to believe this happens. Why do you need to pretend when you're on the internet?? Very wierd!!! That said I really enjoy living in my M.A.N.S.I.O.N and I am so blessed to have the PERFECT child. She never cries you know. Never. And I've never felt like I want to throw her out the window either. I'm kinda good like that...Oh and did I tell you that a talent agency spotted me the other day? The want me for a cover shoot of a BIG magazine. Can't say much more than that at the moment. It's a bit *hush hush* you know?! The amazing thing is, I wasn't even trying to look nice...I guess it's in the genes. LOL!!!!
  • well said Tina - I won't even put any photo on my blog not because I am skinny but ugly and a little cross-eyed , yeah wrinkes I do those too and acne ...
    stay true.
