Nothing better to do?

We live about 500 metres from the primary school and we can usually tell that it’s almost 3pm because all the cars start parking up and down the street waiting for the kids to come out of school.

There is one particular mum who turns up at 2pm so she can get a parking spot right in front of the school. When I first saw her doing this, I thought that she mustn’t have much to do at home (or she is very organised) if she can sit in her car for half an hour waiting for her kids.

But I just drove down past the school around 1.30pm this afternoon to go to the supermarket and I saw that she was parked there already! That is an hour and a half before school is out! At 1.30pm, I’m running around like a chook with it’s head cut off trying to finish the last things on my to-do list before the kidlets get home!

If you go pick up your kids from school, how early do you leave?

  • It's crazy isn't it how early some parents get to school. Personally I think on the most part it's laziness - they want to get the closest spot. When I drive I get one of the furthest spots and it still only takes me probably a whole 5 minutes max. to walk to the gate. Normally I ride or walk and leave around 20mins before bell time - it takes 10-15 to ride/walk. If I'm driving I leave 15mins before.

  • Are you sure this lady isn't me???

    LOL.

I get there between 2.15 and 2.20 to get the spot closest to the gate to DS1's class. I only do it because we've had so much rain here and I have to drag baby and DS2(on the 3 days that he isn't at kindy) with me. When it's raining heavy, I don't want to try and juggle the pram, so that's why I go early for that spot(baby is so heavy that I don't want to have to walk too far!). It's different in summer, I could care less how far away from the school I park!

PS. The blog has moved :)
  • LOL @ Tracey!
No, it's not you. I actually know the woman and her kids aren't little. She doesn't even move far from her car! The other day I saw her get a camping chair out of her boot so she had something to sit on while she waiting...lol
  • I actually leave home at 5 past three and get a better parking spot because most of the cars have left.

Wren enjoys the independence of standing outside the gate and chatting with friends and the teacher.
~ I'm no longer allowed inside the school to get her, she told me in Feb, although this will change when Mr Bump starts Kindy next year. Aren't I lucky?
