Nothing better to do?
We live about 500 metres from the primary school and we can usually tell that it’s almost 3pm because all the cars start parking up and down the street waiting for the kids to come out of school.
There is one particular mum who turns up at 2pm so she can get a parking spot right in front of the school. When I first saw her doing this, I thought that she mustn’t have much to do at home (or she is very organised) if she can sit in her car for half an hour waiting for her kids.
But I just drove down past the school around 1.30pm this afternoon to go to the supermarket and I saw that she was parked there already! That is an hour and a half before school is out! At 1.30pm, I’m running around like a chook with it’s head cut off trying to finish the last things on my to-do list before the kidlets get home!
If you go pick up your kids from school, how early do you leave?

What was I thinking?!
After much discussion and headaches and stress (ok, the headaches and stress were probably only suffered by me!) we have come to the decision that DS16 will finish his HSC through correspondence and study at home. My concern is that he will not have the motivation to put 100% effort and concentration into his work so I came up with a brilliant idea!
I’m going to study my HSC right along with him!
I left school at the end of Year 10 when I was 15. I did to go TAFE after I left to complete a retail traineeship but that was the last time I did any type of study (almost 20ish years ago!)
NOW, my concern is that I won’t have the motivation to complete it and what example am I setting for my first-born child? DH is fully supportive of me studying and has promised to help out (so my kitchen sinks will continue to be spotless HA!) so I will be able to take time through the day for study.
So now it’s a matter of waiting to get the information packs in the mail and returning them with the completed enrolment forms and pre-evaluation maths and english tests and scheduling in study times into our days.
Have I totally cracked?! Stay on this channel for further updates~! LOL

Never thought I’d say it
I know of some parents who have basically kicked their kids out when they reach 15-16 because they just can’t put up with the obnoxious, rude attitudes of their teenagers. But I could never understand how they could allow their kids to leave home at that age and when my two oldest babes were young, I used to always say that there would be NO WAY that I would kick my kids out.
These two babes are now 16 and 15 and while the boy (who’s 16) isn’t giving me much trouble, it’s DD15 who is the one who reduces me to tears when we argue and who seems to think that she has it so hard at home and that it would be so much better for her if she moved out at home.
Stupidly, it’s really lame comments that starts full blown screaming matches. I could be sitting listening to DD15 lecturing DD12 about skin care and I could jokingly say “who made you the authority on acne?” and DD15 would end up flying off her handle.
It could be just hormones, on her part AND mine, and I still stand by not ever wanting to kick my kids out of home because I can’t handle them any more but I can totally understand how some parents do it because they hahve reached the end of their sanity.
Someone please tell me that it’s just a phase and we’ll get through it. But please don’t remind me that we still have 3 more daughters to reach teenage years!

Kids and Computer Time
It seems that the computers in the house are on 24/7. If the older kidlets aren’t on the internet, they are using the computer to do their homework or any school assignments that they need to complete.
It was just a matter of time that the younger ones would want to go on the computer as well but I worry about them going on the internet. I’d much rather them use educational software that is suitable for their age, fun and at the same time allowing kids to learn and discover essential skills that they need to succeed in school.
I was asked to check out Knowledge Adventure, a leader in developing software for children. I had heard of Math Blaster and Reading Blaster before through DD8’s school. The software is great for encouraging kids to gain confidence in their math and reading skills. But I didn’t realise that they have software for toddlers and preschoolers as well. I’m always looking for new activities for the baby’s play time and these software titles can let her have fun on the computer and learn at the same time.
I think that, with Christmas coming, I might have to buy some of these titles to put in the younger kidlets’ stockings. I like products that seem just to be fun for the kids but they don’t realise that they’re learning something at the same time!
