Don’t send me hoax emails!
Disclaimer: I am sometimes guilty of forwarding on emails that say “if you don’t send this to 5 people, a fridge or something will fall on your head” because basically, if a fridge happens to fall on my head, it will be my own fault, won’t it?!
But the email I’m talking about is different….it won’t give you 33 1/3 years bad luck! LOL
Recently one friend and one relative forwarded the same email to me from an “Amy Bruce”, that said:
“Hi, my name is Amy Bruce.
I am 7 years old, and I have severe lung cancer . I also have a large tumor in my brain, from repeated beatings. Doctors say I will die soon if! this isn’t fixed, and my family can’t pay the bills. The Make A Wish Foundation, has agreed to donate 7 cents for every time this message is sent on. For those of you who send this along, I thank you so much, but for those who don’t send it, what goes around comes around. Have a Heart, please send this.
Please, if you are a kind person, send this on.
PLEASE HIT FORWARD BUTTON NOT REPLY BUTTON.
YOUR’S FAITHFULLY,
AMY BRUCE”
I vaguely remember receiving an email like this YEARS AGO so I thought I’d see if it was a hoax and sure enough, it IS a hoax! Not only is there no Amy Bruce with lung cancer and a brain tumour, but there is NO WAY that the Make-A-Wish Foundation would “lend its support to such a ridiculous email-based charity campaign”.
It would be really nice if, first of all, the original poster would not email this crap to play on people’s emotions and, second of all, the beautiful people whom I love very much who send me emails would do a really quick check to see of the email they are about to send to every single person in their address book is actually a real email!

I could not agree with this post more! Try using http://www.thanksno.com. It is seriously awesome. All you do reply to the email with a cut and paste message from thanksno.com. Check it out. Sometimes I am too chicken to use it.
I have replied to the forward with proof from snopes.com. Now they forward stuff with the words “I already checked snopes.” Puh-leeze. I still don’t care.

Snopes.com is a great place to go and find out about hoax e-mails. I send them the link to snopes and tell people who forward these things to read it and never forward me junk again.
I’ve been getting these sort of things since 1995. But it is usually from a person new to e-mail, they keep perpetuating this junk.

Now see I get those things ALL the time because people actually believe in the garbage as well as if you forward this so many times you will get a surprise or something. It’s total garbage and I just delete it instead of forwarding.

I’ve used Snopes.com to research the debunkability of emails I’ve received. Strangely, I’ve found that my friends who send me these hoaxy things get a bit annoyed if I alert them to the fakeness.
