Public Vs Private

I have heard so many horror stories about women giving birth in public hospitals but I have to say, I stayed in our local public hospital when each of our children were born and I didn’t have any problems. Of course, if you want a private room and not share with anyone else then it may be worth ensuring that your medical insurance covers your hospital stay in a private hospital after the birth but as far as my stay in the public hospital and the professionalism of the nurses, I wouldn’t hesitate to go there again.

Did you go public or private when you had your children?

  1. Okay…first..I’m remarried. I have 2 boys from a previous marriage. The first son was born in a public hospital in Greece (I was in the US Air Force). My second was born in a private hospital. (Most hospitals in the U.S. are private). My current wife had her first son in a Catholic hospital..so..I don’t know if that is considered private or public. She was tended to by nuns. Her second child was born in a military hospital..she was married to a guy in the Army at the time. After we married and blended the family..we had two of our own..both born in private hospitals. Given my experience with the public Greek hospital versus the private U.S. hospitals..I would say go private when you can.

Also..I’ve added your icon to my blog..would you consider adding mine? If so, please send me an e-mail. I don’t know if I should leave my code in this comment or not. Also..congrats on being a new aunty!!

  2. I had all 3 of mine as a public patient and it was great. Mind you, our options of private and the perks it provides out here in the country are less than in cities. Not sure what I would have done if we were in the city.
