Teens and mobile phones
Our three older babes have mobile phones (cell phones, for you non-Aussies :P). They are not on contract but have prepaid accounts and the babes have to either earn the money to get credit for their phones or they use their birthday/Christmas money. I originally started buying them the smallest amount voucher each week or fortnight but they still treat the phones as “novelties” and ring/text their friends just for the sake of it.
How can I teach them that phones are not “toys” and that they shouldn’t waste their phone credit on sending unnecessary text messages or making unnecessary calls? A few times, they’ve needed to call me only to have no credit left on their phones so they use 1800 - reverse which ends up costing me more!
How do you deal with your teens and their phones?

My oldest has a prepaid phone and she has to pay for it all her self. No minutes and too bad. If she can’t call me when she needs to then she has to borrow a friends phone. But then again she is almost 18 and babysits for the money when she needs it.
