Some people are just plain rude!
Well that floored me!
As you know, we’ve recently celebrated some birthdays in the mummified household. Well, yesterday I received a phone call from a older friend, whose son happens to be my son’s godfather. Instead of saying hello when I answered the phone, she right away asked how come her grand-daughter (the godfather’s daughter, who we don’t have much to do with anyway) didn’t receive any party invitations.
So I explained to her that first of all, my daughter didn’t have a party so to speak, she just had a couple of friends stay over and my son’s birthday lunch was just family and because he was turning 16, I thought it’d be nice to have his godfather there.
Her reply - fine, that’s all I wanted to know. And then she hung up on me!
Frankly, I don’t think I need to explain myself as to why I invite (or don’t invite) someone to any of our family functions. That’s like having all of my daughter’s friends’ mothers call to me to see why their daughter didn’t stay the night at our house!
I don’t know who she thinks she is but as far as I’m concerned, if the novelty of taking her grand-daughter away from her ex-daughter in law is wearing off, she shouldn’t take it out on other people. (Long story, and one I’d prefer not to share the details).

I feel your pain.. family dynamics can be such a mystery and you are so correct, it’s your house, and why do family members feel they can dictate who and when! Stand your ground!
