Grandmother’s got a potty mouth!

Even though we live not far from my maternal grandmother, whom we call Babcia (Polish), we don’t see her very often.

I had organised with her to bring Bill and kids to visit this afternoon, telling her we’d be there around 4pm.

All seven of us walked up to the front door. She opened the door but kept the fly screen door shut and said “Can I help you?”

Bill, jokingly, said “We’re selling bibles”.

She promptly told us that she wasn’t f#$%en interested and that we should f#$% off! And then closed the door.

We stood there, shocked. I thought she was joking with us. Those who know my grandmother know that she’s not your typical nice-mannered grandma! LOL

So when we realised that she was serious and wasn’t going to open the door, I knocked again and as she opened the door, she was ready to go off again when I said “Babcia!”

It was only then that she realised that it was me and she cracked up laughing and apologised over and over the whole time we were there! She swore that she didn’t recognise us and that it was my fault because I had changed my hair.

Yep, that’s my Babcia!

Nothing beats homemade soup

When I mentioned on Twitter and Facebook that we were having homemade pumpkin and sweet potato soup for dinner, I had a few people ask how we Bill made it.

So Bill says you need: (and he’s not one to measure, so apologies for no measurements) pumpkin, sweet potato, cream or sour cream and a chicken stock.

Peel the pumpkin and sweet potato and cut into pieces. Throw pieces into the slow cooker, along with (about 1 litre) of chicken stock and 1 litre of water. Cook on High for about 2 hours. Add 600ml of cream and then, while your wife is busy blogging about Ferrari parts, blend until mixture is smooth. If it’s still too thick for your liking, add more stock.

Add a dollop of cream or sour cream on top to serve and enjoy with crusty bread rolls.

I survived Girl Guides camp

100_1879I wish I was a Girl Guide when I was a kid. This weekend, Giorgia and I participated in a Mother/Daughter camp. Out of the 11 mums that stayed overnight, there were only 3 of us that were never Guides. The others told us about the fun times they had when they were Guides back in the day.

It was quite obvious that the young Guides these days have it way too easy because our camp was an “indoor camp” with beds, showers and an indoor camp fire because some of the girls, (and most of the mums) were not too keen on singing camp songs amongst the leaches!

100_1989The theme of the camp was “fairytales” with the activities based around The Ugly Duckling, Cinderella, The Emperor’s New Clothes and a few others.

The girls (and mums!) all had a great time and I must admit that it was more fun than I thought it was going to be. I actually packed a book and a notepad/pen just in case I needed to find something to do but we were busy having fun the whole weekend!

But the highlight of the camp was watching the new girls (Giorgia and Cayley-Ann (Peta’s daughter) included) making their promise and becoming fully-fledged Girl Guides.

It was an awesome weekend! Giorgia is so excited that she is a “real” Girl Guide now and said that she loved the camp. So did I…and I tell you, it was much better than spending the weekend doing housework and laundry! LOL
